Wow, September....I haven't been much of a poster this fall! Today is December 1st, which means the Christmas season is in full swing. We got all of our Christmas decorations and trees up last weekend, so we're looking pretty festive around here. The kids are starting to get excited for Christmas, and I'm trying to focus on giving with them this year. Beau may need some work in the surprise department though. We've had a little practice with birthday's lately. Megan's birthday was in November and we brought her birthday present to her at Mom and Dad's last weekend. When we were wrapping the present I reminded Beau that we can't tell her what it is! He said ok... (we always exchange a book and a Christmas ornament for our birthdays). He gave her the Christmas ornament and she opened it. Then he picked up the other present and said "ok Megan, here's your book now". Good thing she already knew what it was! :) We also have one our our daycare friends birthdays this week. We went and got supplies for her party on Monday night. On Tuesday morning he said "Maggie we got stuff for your birthday." I quickly looked at him and said "Beau don't tell!" He gives me an exasperated look and says "MOM, I'm not going to tell her we got her a puppy!" (We got her a stuffed dog toy). We may need some more work :)
I'm participating in a prompt series called Reverb 10 for the month of December. Each day a prompt is sent to me designed to help me reflect on and record our lives through 2010. If you want to participate go here.
Reverb 10, Day 1
Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you're choosing that word. Now, imagine it's one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you? (Author: Gwen Bell)
My word for 2010 is CHANGE. A lot has changed for us around here from one year ago. Cora entered our family, and three became four. An only child became a big brother, we became parents to multiple children and can officially say "the kids". Our daily lives have become slightly more hectic, nights have become shorter, "free time" has become non-existent and we've learned how to "trade time" instead. Yes, we've had a lot of change BUT we are overjoyed and grateful for every bit of it. Not only do we have a healthy beautiful baby girl to show for it, but we've really had an amazing smooth transition through it all. Cora is definitely right where she is meant to be. Beau's adjustment was seamless, my months of worrying about how he would feel and adjust to becoming a big brother were COMPLETELY needless! He is so kind, gentle and absolutely adores her (and she returns it whole heartily). We've had a lot of change, but I've never been more grateful for anything in my life.
Fast forwarding a year to this time in 2011 I would hope that I could say my word is HEALTH. I'm already thinking ahead to 2011 goals (resolutions...whatever you want to call them) and am going to try my hardest to focus on health. Healthier food (cooking with fewer cans and jars and more fresh produce), and more exercise for everyone. That's my goal, but I would also hope that 2011's word health would refer to healthy bodies (few illnesses, minor, and of course major), healthy relationships, healthy family, and a healthy balance of work and play.
Sorry no pictures today, but look for all of our October and November pictures over on the share site later this evening.
