December Daily 2016 | Day 7-12

Just a quick post today so I can get caught up posting my December Daily pages.  December is flying by, I can't believe there is only one more weekend before Christmas!  We had a busy week last week, and I think we all kind of hit a wall.  The kids requested on more than one occasion to "just stay home" and the girls are both fighting the sniffles.  I even had a nightmare (yes, nightmare!) that Christmas was over and it all but passed my by.  I was so relieved when, after a few minutes of waking I realized we still had a couple weeks left to enjoy the season.  Here's the days I've been working on:

Day 7:
I knew I wanted to include an "around here" post at some point in this album since it is our first Christmas in our new home.  I liked seeing the same familiar decorations in a new setting.  I didn't have many other photos or stories from the 7th, so I figured it would be the perfect opportunity.

Journaling:
Around here we're pulling out all of our holiday decorations and adorning our new home with holiday cheer.  After all those familiar decorations were up I was amazed by how much more it felt like home.  Sure we've been unpacked and "settled" for months, but there was just something about walking into the house lit up with a familiar glow.  Full of smells, and treasured items that only appear around the holidays that said "this is HOME".

Day 8:
Day 8 was easy, because we got to meet our new nephew Brys!!

Journaling:
We got to meet this sweet little bundle tonight.  Our new nephew Brys Steven.  He was born on Tuesday, weighed 8 lbs, and was 19.6 inches of perfection.  They came home from the hospital this afternoon, so we planned a short little road trip to meet him after supper.  A perfect December evening, Christmas carols on the radio, snow softly falling, lights on all the houses we passed, and a precious baby waiting for us to snuggle.

Day 9:
The 9th was a Friday, and again I didn't have many pictures, or a story that really stuck out.  I ended up using a piece of artwork Sylvie made during daycare, and Ali's tag idea, giving everyone a prompt to respond to.  I used "My favorite thing about Christmas is"

Here's the finished page

Day 10:
The 10th was the annual Roske Christmas gathering

Journaling:
Today was the Roske Christmas gathering.  It was at a hotel in Rochester again, so the kids spent the afternoon swimming.  Kevin and Julie also surprised the 2nd generation with a dice game.  We took turns rolling the dice, and whoever rolled a 6 got a chance to open a packing tape wrapped present...until the next person rolled a 6.  To say we're a competitive bunch might be an understatement.

I also wrote "A 3rd generation getting together year after year" around the "celebrate this" circle.

Day 11:
We got snow on Saturday night, so Luke took the kids to a new sledding hill here in town.  The perfect opportunity for me to enjoy a peaceful block of time to do some holiday wrapping.

Journaling:
Luke took the kids sledding today, which means I had an HOUR in the house by MYSELF to wrap presents & watch Hallmark movies.  Christmas miracles.

And finally Day 12:
I was digging through my stash looking for something to include on day 12 and a card from Ali's main kit last year jumped out at me.  I used the "say yes" sentiment to document things that I said yes to that night (when my tendency may have been to say no).  I liked the idea that saying yes may not always bring magazine page perfection, but the joy it brings is better than superficial perfection could ever be.

Journaling:
Tonight I said yes to cardboard boxes in the living room so the girls could sit in a train car while watching The Polar Express.  I said yes to giant paper gingerbread men hanging on the wall.  Tonight I looked past the mess and said yes to joy laughter and smiles.  I said yes.

Around here.....

Here's just a little snapshot of what life looks like right now. Around here we're starting to get into the basketball season.  Both Beau and Cora are participating in traveling basketball through SYBA.  The crazy weekends of tournaments haven't started yet, but they're both having practice regularly.  Luke will be the assistant coach to Cora's team this year.  Sylvie will get to play too, but her season won't start until January and is one game on Saturday mornings in town. Around here are three kids are going to religion class on Wednesday nights, I'm teaching Cora's 3rd grade class.  Between that and basketball practice it's rare to have a weeknight where we are all home. Around here we're getting excited for the holidays!  I'm starting in on some shopping, planning and thinking about getting the house decorated.  The kids are getting Christmas lists made, and my desk is full of December Daily prep work.  Around here I...

WITL Day 5 - Friday

Friday began, as predicted, with a steady soaking rain and I was glad I switched my run to yesterday.  At 5am Georgia decided I've hit the snooze button enough, puts her paws up on the bed and licks my hands until I get up.  She didn't get the same glad feeling about not getting to head out on a run, and lay pouting by the front door. I fill her food bowl while the coffee brews, and she decides that if we can't run she'll ask to be repeatedly let in and out instead.  The result was lots of muddy paw drying. Around 6 Luke leaves for work and Georgia settles down.  The house is finally quiet and still and I'm thankful for the few minutes of peace. It's daycare appreciation day, and this year I am showered with gifts from my families.  It definitely adds a boost to the otherwise dreary and slow start to the day.  As the kids are packing their bags for school I find that some homework has been neglected throughout the week.  I'm ...

Not The Only One

Another Halloween has come and gone.  This year we had a dinosaur, vampire, and Snow White (returning for the second year in a row).   Holidays like this are always such a stark reminder of just how not babies my babies are.  Once again I just wasn't in the Halloween spirit this year.  We didn't even go to a pumpkin patch or apple orchard.  The few free hours we had were cold and rainy and the kids weren't in to it.  I definitely wasn't into it. This year, as if I needed more of a reminder of how fast my kids' childhood is slipping away, the social media trend seemed to be "Halloween from years gone by".  Everyone, at least in my "friend" feed was posting year to year Halloween pictures of their kids.   As I was busy liking and loving everyone's past Halloweens I came across a post that stopped me in my tracks.  In her post she stated that she felt like the Scrooge of Halloween and that what was once fun now felt like ...
